I have been painting professionally since around 1993, when I began my career as a freelance illustrator. I soon found more work painting large murals and decorative backdrops for photographers. I have been the owner of Faux Pas for 16 years, focusing on faux and decorative paint finishes as well as murals and commissioned fine art paintings. The volume of commissioned works has increased in the last few years, which has led to a shift in my focus to paint even more.
I am often inspired by the beautiful scenery as seen from my car, especially in the morning and evening light and the changing seasons of spring and autumn, when there is a greater variety of color. And it helps to slow things down and notice the little things like the sunrise on a nearby pond or the bird species that you may have never noted before while walking in the park or a nature trail. I try to capture these images in a realistic way, with just a hint of impressionism. I tend to pay attention to the use of negative space. And my interior design experience shows in my attempt to achieve just the right color balance with a slightly simplified color palette.
